Organic

The word “organic” is defined by law. Any food labelled organic must meet a strict set of regulations, known as standards. These standards define what farmers can and cannot do. These standards place a strong emphasis on protecting the environment.
Organic farming does not allow chemical or artificial fertilizers to be used during the production process. Pesticides are severely restricted- in fact, only seven of the hundreds of pesticides available to farmers can be used. The Soil Association, however, only allows four of these pesticides to be used. Farmers cannot grow genetically modified crops.
Non-organic and intensive livestock farming commonly means that animals are reared with the routine use of drugs, antibiotics and wormers. Parasite problems in organically reared farm animals are controlled through regularly moving the animals to fresh pasture and other preventative methods, rather than routinely dosing the animals with drugs.
GreenStreet.net's many merchants stock a wide range of Organic products.
